I’m disabled, is there anything extra I can claim to help with living costs?
There are a variety of benefits that you might be able to claim if you are sick or disabled, depending upon your circumstances; including:
- Disability Living Allowance (DLA) if you’re under 16
- Personal Independence Payment (PIP) if you’re 16 or over and haven’t reached State Pension age
- Attendance Allowance if you’ve reached State Pension age
If you get PIP, DLA, Attendance Allowance, Adult Disability Payment or Child Disability Payment, the person who looks after might be able to get Carer’s Allowance: see below.
If you can’t work because you’re sick or disabled you might be entitled to Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) or Employment and Support Allowance (ESA).
Please see specific advice on what benefits you might be able to claim if you’re sick or disabled on the national Citizen’s Advice website.
